The Wise Tortoise and the Proud Hare B1.1

A fable story by Lila Green

Once upon a time in a peaceful forest, there lived a proud hare named Harry. Harry was very fast. He could run faster than anyone else in the forest. Because of this, he often bragged about his speed to the other animals. One day, while boasting about his talents, he saw a slow tortoise named Tilly. Harry laughed and said, "Tilly, you are so slow! You can never win a race against me!" Tilly smiled and replied, "Maybe, but I would like to try. Let’s have a race!"

The other animals gathered around, excited to see the race. They knew that Harry was the fastest, but they also admired Tilly for her courage. The animals cheered as they prepared for the race. The wise old owl, Oliver, decided to be the judge. He said, "On your marks, get set, go!"

Harry dashed off quickly, leaving Tilly far behind. He was so fast that he decided to take a break. He thought, "I am so much faster than Tilly. I can take a nap and still win!" So, Harry lay down under a tree and fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Tilly continued to move slowly but steadily. She did not stop to rest. She kept thinking about the finish line. "I may be slow, but I will not give up!" she said to herself. As she walked, the other animals cheered her on. "Go, Tilly! You can do it!"

After a while, Harry woke up. He looked around and quickly realized that Tilly was not far from the finish line. He panicked and ran as fast as he could. But Tilly was already close to the finish line. The animals were shouting, "Tilly, Tilly! You can win!"

Harry tried his best, but it was too late. Tilly crossed the finish line first! The animals cheered loudly. Tilly smiled and said, "Thank you, everyone! I did my best!" Harry was surprised and a little embarrassed. He realized that being fast was not everything.

Oliver the owl flew down and said, "Harry, you are very fast, but you were overconfident. Tilly was slow but determined. She never gave up!" Harry nodded and said, "I see now. I should not have underestimated Tilly. She taught me an important lesson today."

From that day on, Harry became a better friend to Tilly. He learned to respect others, no matter how fast or slow they were. Tilly and Harry even practiced together. They became good friends, and Harry always encouraged Tilly, saying, "You can do it, Tilly!"

The forest was a happier place because of their friendship. They showed everyone that it is not only about being the fastest but also about trying your best and believing in yourself. And so, the wise tortoise and the proud hare lived happily ever after, reminding everyone that hard work and determination can lead to success, no matter how slow you go.

And that is the end of the story. Remember, it is important to believe in yourself and never underestimate others, for everyone has their own strengths.
